Portland State University is a public state basically an urban university located in city center of Portland, Oregon. It was founded in 1946 but latter adopted officially in 1969. Portland State University is currently the largest school in the Oregon University System and is also growing rapidly. The Bachelors Degrees are provided in a number subjects, including accounting, Arabic, African studies, art and craft, child and family studies, mechanical engineering, international economics, computer engineering, Native American studies, European studies, environmental engineering, health studies, Japanese, political science, information systems, speech and hearing science, sculpture, professional writing and many more courses. Masters degrees are provided in the education, Master Of Business Administration (MBA), liberal arts and sciences, studio arts, social work, engineering, etc. The University also awards twelve highly renowned doctoral degrees in mathematics, environmental sciences, engineering, education, and urban studies but there are no doctoral degrees in the field of arts and humanities. The most unique and the most innovated program at Portland State University is Chiron, which is named for a mythical educator.
The tuition fees for undergraduate students were about $1802 for 18 credits which was in the year 2004-2005. Students applying from other state i.e. out of state and graduate students have varied costs. The financial aid facility is available purely on the basis of merit with a combination of grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study programs.
Portland State University has more than 100 students organizations in their campus, including the popular Greek groups and the student political groups. There is also a students newspaper known as The Daily Vanguard, which was established late in 1946.
